You’ve Flown Your Colors

It never begins this way
but how the web you’ve woven
entraps me more
with every move.
All I wanted was to serve
and fulfill my duty
to you.
But you uncoil,
your colors flying high
like a Jolly Rodger,
my demise is on the horizon
Oh Pacific,
the whip sting you’ve
lashed into me
I will bear for life,
a memento from you,
I didn’t know I needed.
Your scythe has left its mark,
and now I see you,
the blindness once
in my eyes has lifted
and only black death do I see
in your eyes
where once was love.
