I was there when you left,
ready and waiting
like the proud gentleman
that I am not.
You looked lovely,
beautiful art above
the collar of your jacket,
and off we went.
I offered to pay
and that seemed to
throw you off.
Talking about
here and there
never a quiet moment really,
something new for me.
The reptile brain betrayed
the gentleman
I am not,
and screamed for more.
I thought a beach walk
would be nice.
And it was.
I should’ve gone for your hand.
The ice and cold
reminded me of myself
and what I don’t want to be
anymore.
The reptile brain
was quiet finally,
dulled by the cold
but not gone.
Those lips move
but I can’t tell what
they’re saying.
Under your spell already.
Should I be worried?
But I blundered
blundered blundered blundered.
I should’ve gotten out
and at least hugged you
though I wanted just
a bit more.
Reptile brain took over
and one track I ran
all the way back to my home.
Too timid
in your presence to do much else.
Even after your kind offer.
I blundered blundered blundered
the end.
